Danielle (Juno Temple) is an audacious and promiscuous Oklahoma high school student in the late 1980s. Her teachers don't approve of her attitude, and her mother (Milla Jovovich) is about to marry a Mormon whom Danielle detests. Amidst the turmoil of her troubles, she is paired with shy, gay classmate Clarke (Jeremy Dozier) for a family planning project. Their unexpected friendship prompts them to run away to Fresno in search of Danielle's birth father, with their bag of flour "baby Joan" in tow. The road trip leads Danielle and Clarke on a funny, heartfelt journey full of glorious 80's tunes.
