VUDU has arrived. The revolutionary VUDU box and service deliver instant access to thousands of movies and TV shows directly through the television, without requiring a computer or cable/satellite TV service.
VUDU's team of consumer electronics and technology veterans hails from TiVo, WebTV, Openwave, 2Wire, Slim Devices, OpenTV, NeXT, and Danger. First conceptualized in 2004, the company operated in a stealth mode for over two years as it systematically honed every facet of the product to ensure that it delivered upon the consumer dream.
VUDU has struck unprecedented deals with every major studio and more than twenty independent and international distributors to offer approximately five thousand movies, HD films, and TV shows. Via their broadband Internet connection, VUDU users have the ability, on a studio-specific basis, to rent or buy titles and begin viewing them instantly.
VUDU's investors include Greylock Partners, Benchmark Capital, Artis Capital and other institutional investors.
Edward Lichty — General Manager.
Edward Lichty is VUDU's EVP of Strategy and Content. Edward is responsible for managing VUDU's content service, including content acquisition, on-box promotions and marketing, and content operations. Prior to joining VUDU, Edward spent eight years in various roles at TiVo Inc. Most recently, Edward served as Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development, where he helped guide overall corporate strategy and built and managed partnerships with DIRECTV, Comcast, AOL and Sony, among others. Edward also oversaw TiVo's emerging broadband content business initiative. Early in his tenure at TiVo, Edward was responsible for creating the company's initial financial model and maintained day-to-day management of TiVo's successful IPO in 1999. Prior to joining TiVo, Edward was a member of the finance team at International Wireless Communications, a wireless service provider with operating companies in Latin America and Asia. There, he helped craft the company's business model and helped coordinate the company's fundraising. Edward began his career in the investment banking group at Stephens Inc., a privately held firm located in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he worked on a variety of M&A transactions and private equity investments for the Stephens family.
Edward holds a B.A. in American Studies from Yale University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Tony S. Miranz — Co-Founder EVP Sales & Business Dev.
Tony Miranz co-founded VUDU in June 2004. As the force behind the VUDU vision, Tony has built an all-star team of Silicon Valley specialists and has led the team to implement its ground-breaking core technology, create a powerful intellectual property portfolio, and enter into extensive and unprecedented content licensing agreements with major Hollywood studios and top independent and international distributors. Prior to VUDU, Tony was Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Operations at Tahoe Networks. Previously, Tony served as General Manager of the Americas' Sales and Field Operations at Openwave Systems. Prior to that, Tony was the Vice President of Phone.com's Asian Pacific and Latin American operations, where he grew the business from inception and established Phone.com as the dominant provider of wireless Internet technology in those regions. Prior to Phone.com, Tony held leadership positions in wireless infrastructure sales, systems engineering and R&D at Lucent and AT&T Bell Labs.
Tony holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Illinois and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology.
Dr. Prasanna Ganesan — Chief Technical Officer
Prasanna Ganesan is VUDU's Chief Technical Officer. Prasanna is the chief architect and designer of VUDU's revolutionary carrier-grade content distribution engine and primary inventor and author of VUDU's patent portfolio, including VUDU's first and flagship patent, granted by the US Patent Office in Feb 2007. Prior to joining VUDU at its inception, Prasanna pursued his PhD at Stanford University. During his time at Stanford, he authored 15 research articles on various computer science topics, including P2P systems, databases, and networking. In 2000, he received the President of India Gold Medal, awarded to the student with the highest academic standing at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He also holds the distinction of being ranked first in the Joint Entrance Examination for the Indian Institutes of Technology.
Prasanna holds a B. Tech in Computer Science from IIT Madras, an M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University, and a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University.
Alain Rossmann — Co-Founder
Most recently, Alain Rossmann was the founder of PSS Systems a leading provider of legal information governance solutions and Alain Rossmann is currently its Chairman. Prior to PSS, Alain founded Openwave in 1995 (NASDAQ: OPWV) and was its CEO and Chairman until 2000 and Chairman until 2001. He is widely credited with being the father of wireless access protocol (WAP), a technology that enables cell phones to access the Internet. Prior to Openwave, Alain was the CEO of EO Inc. from 1991 to 1994, when he sold the company to AT&T. Prior to EO, Alain was a founder and vice president of operations of C-Cube Microsystems from 1989 to 1991. He was also co-founder and vice president of marketing and sales at Radius from 1986 to 1989. Prior to Radius, Alain held a variety of marketing positions at Apple Computer.
Alain holds an MBA from Stanford University, an MS in civil engineering from Ecole des Ponts et Chaussee, and an BS in math and physics from Ecole Polytechnique in France.
